CodeHouse Scholars Initiative Overview
  The CodeHouse Scholars Initiative (CHSI) will mentor, prepare and invest in Black, Latinx, and Native American students, in their first year of college, for a career in the tech industry. As a scholar you will be able to receive:
 

  • Up to $20,000 academic scholarships for a tech-related degree
  • Collegiate mentorship from participating HBCUs and industry mentorship from companies like PayPal, Google and Adobe
  • 4-week paid Summer Bridge Program to build your technical and leadership skills at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA

Eligibility Requirements:
No purchase or payment is necessary to apply for this program. To be considered for this program, you must:
 

  1. Be enrolled and matriculating high school senior scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2024
  2. Have accepted an offer of enrollment to attend Clark Atlanta University, Howard University, Morehouse College, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, or Spelman College (“Eligible School”)
  3. Have demonstrated financial and unmet financial need as measured by the your college or university
  4. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on an unweighted 4.0 scale or equivalent
  5. Show evidence of readiness for and commitment to pursue a major in a tech-related field, including computer science/engineering, information sciences, engineering (industrial, mechanical, or electrical), mathematics, human-computer interaction, graphic or UX/UI design
  6. Show evidence of academic ambition, leadership, service, and interest in the technology sector
  7. Identify as Black/African American, Latinx or Native American
  8. Must be a legal resident of the 50 U.S. states, D.C., or any U.S. territory
  9. Must be at least the age of 16 to apply. If you are under the age of 18, you must have the consent of a parent or guardian

Scholar Expectations (including, but not limited to the following):
 

  1. Commit to participate in the mandatory four week Summer Bridge Program for 4 weeks in July 2024 (on campus at Morehouse College – Atlanta, Georgia)
  2. Must participate in all Program-related activities throughout the academic year
  3. Must work collaboratively with his/her/their assigned mentors and provide mentorship to mentees assigned through the Program in subsequent years
  4. Remain in good academic standing (3.0 GPA and above)
  5. Maintain no disciplinary infractions on his/her/their academic and/or student record
  6. Remain in compliance with his/her/their respective school’s code of conduct or ethics (or such similar rules or regulations of his/her/their respective school)
  7. Provide supporting documentation requested, including during the financial need and eligibility verification process
  8. Support the CodeHouse mission to “to expose students of color to tech” by fully taking advantage of every opportunity to learn, be developed, and foster relationships with other individuals in the field, including—but not limited to—mentors, classmates, and colleagues.
